About us
Midlands History Forum is a voluntary organisation which began supporting Birmingham teachers many years ago. During the course of its history, Midlands History Forum has expanded to serve schools throughout all sectors and educational providers throughout the Midlands. It aims to support everyone involved in the teaching of history - teachers in state and private schools; university and college lecturers and students in Initial Teacher Training; LEA advisers and private consultants; and other providers such as museums officers and publishers. MHF's activities cover a wide range of educational provision including the Foundation Stage, Key Stages 1-4, and AS/A level. It has a conference each year -held on a Saturday morning between 9.30 am and 1 pm in the Autumn term. This is usually held at the Faculty of Education, Perry Barr Campus of the University of Central England in Birmingham. MHF has contact with 17 Midlands Local Education Authorities and has average attendances of about 100 people.
Most conferences aim to support teachers' professional development, though occasionally, when key educational initiatives are being proposed, for example by QCA or the DfES, MHF acts as an independent consultative body and a forum for teachers to voice their opinions. Conference speakers and workshop providers include leading national history educators drawn from QCA, HMI, ITT , LEAs and museum services, together with practising teachers who are willing to share their expertise. Conferences also have displays by major educational publishers and museum providers. Everyone involved with MHF's conferences provides their time and services voluntarily and conferences are characterised by having both a professional and friendly atmosphere.
Advertisements are sent to local state and many private schools or can be downloaded from this website. If you wish to come to a conference, please post the slip at the bottom of the advertisement together with a cheque to cover your conference fee to Paul Bracey by ordinary mail rather than e -mail. Details of our individual mailing scheme will be given to you at our conferences. We do not provide pre-conference receipts but a certificate of attendance is provided on the day of the Forum.
